A Titmouse Is Neither

Today, 2 Trombones & a Crossbow salutes:

Eurasian Eagle Owl (Bubo bubo)

Germany’s 2005 Bird of the Year!

At an awards ceremony last night in Berlin, the outgoing champion, Winter Wren, (Troglodytes troglodytes) handed over the crown in the presence of German Chancellor Gerhard Schröder and Berlin Mayor Klaus Wowereit. The host of the event was supermodel (and German national treasure) Heidi Klum. She presented Eurasian Eagle Owl with an over-sized novelty check for 250 Euro, a whimsical selection of kiln-dried, hand-decorated twigs ideal for nest-building, a gift certificate for a year’s supply of mice from Danny’s Pet Land, as well as the prestigious title of German Bird of the Year 2005.

The evening came to a close with a performance by Rammstein, who played a song saluting Eurasian Eagle Owl which was composed specifically for the event.

All in all, it was a magical evening and everyone in Germany is eagerly anticipating Eurasian Eagle Owl’s 2005 reign.

So, here’s to you, Eurasian Eagle Owl!
